Tanzania Gemmological Center (TGC) Opens New Centers to Boost Mineral Value-Added Opportunities (2025)

TGC's Strategic Expansion: Unlocking Tanzania's Mineral Potential

Arusha: The Tanzania Gemmological Center (TGC) has embarked on a transformative journey, unveiling specialized centers at the Arusha International Convention Center (AICC) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA). This strategic move aims to unlock the country's vast mineral potential by fostering opportunities within the value-added chain of gems and precious metals.

According to Head of the Center, Engineer Ally Maganga, these centers will serve as catalysts for change, promoting education, awareness, and entrepreneurship. By engaging local and foreign visitors, TGC aims to showcase the entire mineral value chain, from extraction to processing and product creation.

The primary objective, as Maganga explained, is to empower the community through knowledge and motivation. The centers will provide a platform for TGC's activities, attracting investment and fostering the development of gem processing industries. This includes the creation of exquisite jewelry, such as rings, beads, toys, necklaces, and awards, all derived from Tanzania's mineral resources.

Furthermore, TGC's centers will contribute to the growth of mineral tourism. By welcoming tourists through KIA and conference attendees at AICC, the centers will showcase Tanzania's mineral treasures, attracting visitors and generating economic benefits.

Jeremiah Kituyo, Chairman of the Tanzania Mineral Brokers Association (Broker), praised TGC's initiative. He believes this expansion will strengthen collaboration between the private sector and government, particularly in aligning with the 2009 Mineral Policy's vision for gemstone and precious metal value chains.

This bold move by TGC not only promises to unlock Tanzania's mineral wealth but also invites further exploration and discussion on the potential for mining-led prosperity. As the centers come to life, the nation eagerly anticipates the positive impact on its economy and the global recognition of its mineral resources.
