As we discover, Francis grows up to be the formidable General Shaw, played by the talented James Remar, while Rose, portrayed by Kimberly Guerrero, becomes the enigmatic owner of Derry's antique store. Their paths, once intertwined, diverge as Francis' family moves away, erasing all memories of It, Derry, and Rose from his mind - until a military experiment involving hallucinogens brings it all flooding back, leading to the inception of Operation Precept.
When DECIDER sat down with the cast, Remar and Guerrero emphasized the profound impact of Episode 3's opening scene on the lives of Francis and Rose. "It shaped General Francis Shaw's entire life," Remar asserted. "Being saved from the demon by Rose as a child, then being taken away from Derry by his father, and living a life in the military... It's like a cosmic pull that brings everyone back to Derry."
Guerrero agreed, stating, "That experience was pivotal in shaping Rose's dedication to her role within the circle that protects the world from this creature. I was born for this. I was called to this. It's an ancestral calling passed down through generations."
However, true romantic love eludes both Francis and Rose. "When Francis left, he left a hole in her heart that she never truly healed from," Guerrero shared. "Francis still holds a special place in my heart, a place where a little girl in love resides, longing for a boyfriend and a simple life. And at 64, she still yearns for that!"
Remar revealed that Francis' situation was equally challenging. "To my knowledge, General Shaw never married or had a family. There are no pictures of his children on his desk, no wife's photo on the wall. He dedicated his life to the Air Force."
"I dedicated myself to my duty," Guerrero added.
"Our lives paralleled each other," Remar concluded. "She married her duty, and I married mine, sacrificing the romantic love we once knew and enjoyed as children."
While Rose and Francis share similarities, their paths are destined to collide. Rose holds the secret of Pennywise, while Francis is tasked with finding and harnessing the power of It.
