Florian Wirtz: Eager to Make His Mark, He's Ready to Help the Team
By Chris Shaw
Florian Wirtz is on a mission. After a stellar performance as Player of the Match, he's determined to keep up the momentum and make his mark for Liverpool. The No.7 returned from a brief injury layoff, stepping up to the challenge and helping the Reds secure a 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Sunday.
His influence on the game was undeniable, earning him the Player of the Match title from both supporters and the Premier League. Reflecting on the match at the London Stadium, Wirtz expressed his eagerness to maintain his impact as the team prepares for a home clash against Sunderland.
"I was thrilled to start, considering I had been out for two games," Wirtz shared. "I was grateful that the manager chose to include me in the lineup. I aimed to give my all and contribute to our resurgence, helping us get back on the winning track. I'm delighted that I could make a positive impact."
Wirtz's role as a No.10 granted him the freedom to roam and create opportunities. He focused on improving possession and generating scoring chances. Despite missing out on a few scoring opportunities, he remained optimistic, stating, "I had a few chances to score, but I'm not too fortunate at the moment. I'll keep pushing forward."
The No.7 continued, "I'm thrilled that I had a successful game and could assist the team in securing the win. I'm confident that other aspects, such as goals and assists, will follow. I don't exert excessive pressure on myself, as I understand my capabilities on the field. When I can contribute to the team's victory, I'm content."
Wirtz's satisfaction was further amplified by the success of his teammate, Alexander Isak. Isak, a fellow summer signing, finally opened his Premier League account for the Reds, scoring the crucial goal that broke the deadlock in the match against West Ham. "I'm genuinely happy for him," Wirtz said. "Isak is an exceptional player and a skilled goalscorer. I hope this is just the beginning of many more goals for him."
Wirtz's enthusiasm and dedication to the team's success are evident, and he's ready to continue making his mark.
